Because Mariana Gomes champions painting as a restless, intense quest, in which playfulness, transgression, the happening, the festive and the carnivalesque, the mask, passion and humour all come to the fore, in a determination to walk the tightrope and forge new paths. Painting as action, a feast upon the canvas. And drawing as a continuous flow, a succession of images that have something of thin skin, of a light layer, but also of a mural.
